Rocket Chinese Review
My vote for the top Chinese learning program goes to the “Rocket Chinese”, I loved their mp3 lessons and software.
This course comes from the reputed Rocket Language group. I think they have very aptly named it Rocket Chinese. It is the course to learn Chinese at the rocket speed. The entire course is designed to take you from a novice to an intermediate level Chinese speaker in a period of two months. This is exceptionally good for those who don’t have the time to learn all the intricacies of grammar of any language. You will learn how to speak, read and write Chinese in no time.
The course consists of 5 main components which are 31 interactive audio lessons which would show you how to speak Chinese confidently, 31 illustrated grammar lessons, a software based word building game which helps you remember tons of words, an audio learning game which helps to understand how Chinese is spoken and a members only learners forum where their team of Chinese teachers and native speakers are waiting to help.
They have a Chinese Mandarin Expert , who is also an English language teacher(His Chinese name is Lin Ping 林萍), with a very natural pronunciation style by the way, which is unusual in China, and that’s partly why I asked her to assess this program.
Rosetta Stone Chinese

Rosetta stone has its own reputation in the field of langauge learning. Their users swear by their name. However, when I review it against Rocket Chinese, I find it fails to deliver the kind of punch that Rocket Chinese delivers. The first disappointment comes in the form of fact that it is divided into three levels. You got to pay separately for each of the three levels, that is costly.
With that being said, the course does offer some real good value for money. The lessons are very well planned and the delivery model is good. If you plan to buy two courses then you should definitely consider this. If you can’t afford that much then Rocket chinese is the way to go.
Pimsleur Chinese

Pimsleur Chinese program is another top seller. It is very popular among the very beginners or those who likes to learn the basic Chinese. They have a total of three levels that round to 100 or more small audio lessons that deal with each aspect of the language.
The main concern to me is this program teaches Beijing version of Mandarin, which is not easy to commute with overseas Chinese or Chinese are not from Beijing. After my hard work with audio courses, my Shanghai clients couldn’t understand what I’m trying to tell them.
The only thing that deters me from this course is that this a purely audio course. You don’t get any learning aids like the above two provide. The other thing is that it is priced nearly 10 times of Rocket Chinese. If you can afford that much then I will ask you to bundle Rocket Chinese along with it.
